Chris and Gail run the Long Ride from their Sydney home. They donate their time, energy and home to the running of the event to make sure that every cent raised goes to the Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia. To date they have raised over 2 million dollars. More importantly their efforts, and those of all the riders, have raised the issue of men's health in the communities the rides have passed through.
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men, with over 20,000 men diagnosed each year.
No other cancer affects more Australian men and yet in far too many cases, men live with long-lasting impacts on physical and mental well-being and often fail to seek or find help or support. Tragically more than 3,300 Australian men die from this cancer each year.
In the early stages, there may be no symptoms; however, if detected early, prostate cancer is often highly treatable. This is why men aged 50, or 40 if there is a family history of prostate cancer, should talk to their doctor about testing for prostate cancer as part of their annual check-up - a simple step that could save your life
The Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia
Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA), the peak body for prostate cancer, plays a vital role in the fight against this insidious disease.
The goal of PCFA is to create a future where men live with prostate cancer, not die from it. A future where every man diagnosed with the disease has access to a Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse and where research leads to new treatment options that will ensure our men can live longer and better lives. To learn more about PCFA visit www.pcfa.org.au
All proceeds from The Long Ride support PCFA’s research programs.
Each participant is encouraged to fundraise at least $1000 in donations. Each rider is encouraged to seek sponsorship from any source for goods or prizes that you may raffle locally to add to the amount of donations you raise. You may consider running BBQs, special dinners, seeking corporate sponsorships and spreading the word about prostate cancer. The method you choose also brings with it a responsibility to enjoy yourself and to ensure others know that you are making a difference in the operation to protect your menfolk. If every rider or participant raised a $1000 each, what a difference this would make to you and to others. All cheques are made out to Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. Or you can use the EveryDay Hero fundraising page where receipts are issued online.
Breakthroughs and improvements in treatment of prostate cancer are only possible with the support of people like yourself.
Too many men are at risk - Your fundraising through The Long Ride will make an amazing difference in helping PCFA fund life-saving research for the many men affected by prostate cancer before it is too late.
